Where Is Malawi Located
Malawi a former British colony is located in the south east of Africa, bordered by Tanzania to the North east, Mozambique on the east and south west then Zambia to the north west. Malawi was initially formed by Bantu migrants in the 10th centuries when Chewa believed to have come from the north east,Ngoni believed to have come from South Africa, Yao and Lomwe tribes believed to have come from the valleys of Yao mountains in Mozambique moved from one place to another in search of Pasture land or tribal wars which were away of life in the region. Early 1891 the land was discovered by Portuguese Voyagers who were later piped out by the British hence Malawi became a British colony.
Malawi Formerly know as Nyasaland which means the land of Lakes, originating from the beautiful Lake Malawi. It covers 118,000km2 in the south east of Africa. It streatches to the border of Tanzania in the North east, Mozambique on the east and south west then Zambia to the north west.
Malawi, then known as Nyasaland became a British Protectorate in 1953 which meant that Nyasaland became part of the federal government of northen and southern Rhodesia now known as Zimbabwe and Zambia. The federation was later dissolved Making Nyasaland an independent country with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II . Two years later Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda led the nation into indepence forming Malawi as a republic in 1964 on the 6th of July.
